It feels more natural to have Peter puttering around the lab again. It feels a little like having a distant relative come to visit. He's even dusted the shelving to make sure it's presentable. It would be awful for Peter to think they're slobs down here.
He's settled back at his workspace by the time Peter does arrive, though, with the pieces of a ery specific kind of webshooter spread out on his desk. He's trying to reconstruct the design from memory. He hadn't had the opportunity to check on the younger Peter's equipment, but it all had to serve a similar function, right? Hopefully it'll do.
He finally gets down to the lab for the first time, after a few days of distractions that mostly involved his new physical changes. But he desperately needed to make new web fluid and couldn't put it off any longer.
He took a quick tour of the facility, noticing some areas looking rundown. Peter expected that from what others had told him, and the condition didn't matter as long as the equipment worked.
Then, he saw the parts Fitz had spread out on his desk. It had to be a replica of another Spider-Man's web shooters, because they didn't look much like his at all. Still, he was curious to see how it worked, and if his other self had made any improvements.
"Did the other guy leave this? Or did you reverse engineer your own?"
[ Shortly before she's no where to be found, there's a delivery tucked under his door. ]
Who knew there were benefits of being unable to go back to sleep? We can call this one a prototype. - Morgana
[ Inside are two thin, almost bracelet like devices that should fit neatly with his web shooters, able to be taken on and off as needed. She'd offered to magic up his webbing, and while he hadn't said yes or no either way, she'd decided to play around with with an idea when she couldn't fall back asleep a few nights ago. So, a few hours of conjuring and transfiguring later, these are the results.
She didn't stick (ha) anything that would harm him in it, but she's also not sure of what effects they might have when used, since she hadn't exactly studied his devices up close. She'd been going for a range of at least three or four different effects; stuff like making people fall unconscious when hit with it, for example, or maybe a magical migraine-inducing webbing thing.
Sadly, she won't be around to find out what all it'll do if he ever uses them. ]
Peter is finally recovered enough to trek back to the lab, and with him, he carries the bracelets that Morgana left him. She disappeared before he had a chance to thank her or even try them out, but he had enough time now to put it to the test.
Down in the lab, he straps on his web shooters - the regular one on the left and the broken one on the right, and then attaches the bracelets on top of them. Immediately, he feels a warmth around his wrists, like energy humming just beneath the metal. He makes a target on the other end of the lab and aims for it, tapping his middle and ring fingers to his palm like he would to release his regular webbing.
To his surprise, webbing does shoot out from the bracelets and it hits the target, leaving behind a soft blue glow. Peter goes up to the wall to inspect it and feels a spark when his fingers touch it. "Electric webs," he whispers, in awe that the magic could replicate a type of webbing he had back home.
Over the next few days, he experiments with the bracelets, eventually taking the web shooters off when he realizes he doesn't need them anymore. The bracelets produce their own webbing, an infinite supply that never needs to be reloaded. He tries to think of other kinds of webbing, and the bracelets follow his thoughts.
He discovers he can create impact webs, ones that hit the wall with a crack and leave dents in the concrete. His regular webs come to him as well, still glowing light blue but with the same tensile strength and stretch. Peter waits around with web samples, and just like his formula, they too dissolve after an hour.
The final type of web he discovers on the final day, when he emerges from the labs to find that another event has taken place and many residents seem to be overcome with a strange form of pica. These he's never had before, and he ends up calling them gravity webs. He discovers this when he hits the target on the wall with the web, and it drags the entire thing to the ground.
He tests this one longer than the others, throwing things into the air, catching them in a web casing, and watching them crash to the floor. He even introduces a live subject and brings one of his spiders to the lab, where he observes it becoming completely immobile in the gravity web before freeing it with the dissolving spray.
This invention is a game changer. He only wishes that Morgana was around to see it, and he determines that if he ever sees her again, he'll give her a proper demonstration.
voice message; un: Lugosi (backdated a day post Oct event)
[After debating between a text or voice message, she goes for the latter.]
Hi, Peter. It's Bela. Don't feel you have to answer this message immediately if you're asleep or busy, but I am checking in. Hoping that you're out of the fog and not dead in a ditch. Because I'd be very pissed off at you if you were.
[Bela sighs.]
I didn't know you knew Kate by the way. We came up with a plan between us for when you're back. Because you are back. It involves hugging you, giving you some food and then yelling at you for going out into the fog. But we also realised that nothing would stop you from helping people so I hope you did.
[She's almost done.]
Suppose it's a solo plan now. I've got some food and a hug ready for you. I'll try not to yell. Goodbye.
[After a few hours, he checks his messages and hears the voicemail from Bela. Immediately, he calls back, using the video function so she can see his face and he can prove he's alive. When she answers, she'll see that he's in his bedroom, clearly sitting on the bed with his back against the headboard.]
I don't have a newspaper with today's date, but this is me and I'm alive. Sorry to worry you. And Kate, apparently. I didn't know you knew her, either.
[Because truthfully, it's probably safer to meme AFTER the plants have made weird things happen rather than encourage it even more while they're around.]
[And then, five minutes later...]
No, wait, this one is so much better. If you read better as 'worse'
[He's so embarrassed from how he was affected by the pollen, but he's not going to let Teddy know about any of that. There's a bit of a pause before he sends a return meme.]
[There is no word or phrase that can properly express how much he does not want to have this conversation. Ever since he figured out what happened, he'd been so embarrassed that he'd been avoiding Peggy altogether. How did he even begin to apologize for what his evil counterpart had done?]
Sure, that sounds great. I'm free now if you are.
[No wonder lying is on his sins list. His voice is almost sickeningly sweet as he replies to her.]
It has been years now since Hell has been redone and made even greater than ever before. And you, my prized guest, have made it twelve months in your journey towards redemption. I know that there have been bumps along the way and we haven't always seen eye to eye, but I do wish to show my gratitude. Together, we will all leave Hell one day.
I have handpicked gifts specifically for you to commemorate this anniversary. I do hope you enjoy them.
A basket with a cheap instant camera, some film to refill it 6 times, and a picture of Aunt May
A voucher to have a demon bring up one proper New York style pizza to his room
A voucher to get out of torture. It may be transferred to another party.
Again, I thank you for all of your help in making Hell what it is today.
I can't remember if I actually asked you for a thread or if I just thought about asking you
